I see them, The dancing people. At the wedding; at the Bar Mitzvah; at the Veneto Club. And I pretend not to care, but deep down, oooh craps I want to be them so bad! Well, just like the time my Dad got invited to play clarinet at Carnegie Hall, Glen Eira, the world is offering up one more chance. Lindy Hop classes are starting at The Toff this Monday!
What is Lindy Hop? Well, Savoy dancer ‘Shorty' George Snowden stated that ‘The Hop had been around a long time and some people began to call it the Lindbergh Hop after 1927, although it didn't last. Then, during the marathon at Manhattan Casino, I got tired of the same old steps and cut loose with a breakaway...' Fox Movietone News took a close-up of Shorty's feet right there and asked, ‘What are you doing with your feet Shorty?' He replied, ‘The Lindy'. That was June 17, 1928.
For those of you who, like me, are a bit of a unit, don't worry! This is how awesome we will be. Instructor JT (no, John Tenaglia) and his partner Tess are going to teach us and they will start from the beginning as though we are a bunch of whiteys off the Harlem bus.
Ambience: Indoor
Difficulty: Exertion will pay off
