Not too long ago, two promoters from different clans were overheard talking on Lonsdale Street. It was time, they said, for a coming together of the families. Why? We don't know, because their voices were drowned out by six 18-year olds stumbling past in costume glasses with vintage American Apparel frames. So we can only guess where they all met and how many made the journey to the great dancefloor in the sky that night.
But, sure as Jonny Fontane landed that movie role, they discussed the ‘venue problem'. And now, by coincidence perhaps, we have Lost in Music. A new monthly music event at ACCA. The sloping walls, the shiny floor, the enormous courtyard - why should these architectural gifts be restricted to art fans? Not when there's plenty of room to put a bar in.
This night is for the old school, and for the new school who missed out on the old school. The line-up defies genre pigeon holes, though it's loosely electronic. The first time around this Saturday, there's Melbourne producer Qua, plus J'Nett and Richard Campbell (now Rambl).
Lost in Music is for music fans, civilians, the Corleone and Tattaglia families, the Yakuza and, especially, for the Gen Xers who think we want to go to their concept bars and pay $50 a beer when actually all we want is somewhere to put our amps.
