Receiving an inspection notice from your real estate agent can stir up the similar feeling of dread when you learn that, in ten days, you will be strapped down to have your leg chewed off by pigs. No need to fear, this isn’t an open inspection at your hovel. Rather, you’re invited to inspect other peoples’ houses. Participating residents all over Melbourne will be kicking unwashed saucepans out of the hall, making way for Next Wave artists.
Across seven separate days, artists install work inspired by the abode they have been delegated. Feel welcome to snoop, judge and enquire about which shampoo brand they use; this will be a voyeur's playground. But before you get giddy and start raiding their pantry, remember your manners.
Artists, Conrad Dudley Bateman, Kotoe Ishii, Alex Martinis Roe, Rowan McNaught, Miso and Ghostpatrol, Carl Scrase and Emile Zile settle into houses from Carlton to Port Melbourne under the curatorial prowress of Tai Snaith. And no doubt the participating residents will weep softly in their laundries, dreading that inspection letter – the kind without Next Wave’s letterhead.
