Missing link was started in 1977 by Davd Pepperell and one-time manager of The Birthday Party, Keith Glass. A giant of Australia's punk music scene, Glass also headed Missing Link Records, the label that put out such seminal bands as The Go-Betweens, The Laughing Clowns as well as The Birthday Party. Which makes him a pretty goddamn cool guy doesn't it?

Anyway, this subterranean catacombs is a haven for music buffs. Specialising in stuff you can't get at HMV, Missing Link is like Melbourne's vibrant community radio culture made racks and shelves. If you get the chance, head down there for a live instore performace on their tiny corner stage. It's guaranteed to make you feel part of something. I should probably also mention the amazing hand-painted record sleeves that adorn the narrow entrance. They're amazing.
