Tucked away above Russell Street, Kanga Kanga stocks - in their words - "Cool Asian Magazines". Visiting the store is like taking a crash course in Japanese youth culture in all its loud, fickle and furiously paced glory. From the retina-searing design of Nail Venus (a bi-monthly nail art publication) to the austere coolness of the design quarterly +81 there's something for all tastes.
Coming from a consumer culture that out-consumes and out-trends just about every other culture, a good look through Kanga Kanga's selection can leave you feeling a little, well, un-cool. But don't sweat it, you are cool, you're just not at that level yet. You're probably only a few copies of Men's Egg or Non-No away from it.
Other than mags, there's a nice range of T-shirts by Japanese label Kiks TYO and a good little selection of cooking and language books as well.
