Today, my dear mother took me to an op shop. Not any op shop, but the greatest op shop in the world. At the beginning I was hesitant, to say the least. I hadn't the energy to scrounge around some damp-smelling hovel desperately searching for a non-moth-bitten jumper or a non-cigarette-burnt skirt.
As we pulled up to the quaint shopping strip of Queens Parade, a clean, neat window display welcomed me. A sandwich board out the front presented a surprisingly delicious example of what they had inside: 'Helmut Lang singlet $59.00, Vivian Westwood shirtdress $110.00'. Fuzzy feelings hit me faster than when the Eiffel Tower fireworks burnt six holes in my BCBG beret.
Inside, Bruce confirmed these feelings and beyond. Having a play with Diane Von Furstenberg and Lanvin as well as Issy Miyake and Miu Miu erased my original perception that vintage stores smell like old man pee and baby vomit! Bruce does not smell of old man pee and baby vomit, it smells fashionable and fabulous! I assure you of that. I will never doubt my mother again.
