Hey art galleries: get rid of your art and just sell merch. It's what the people want. More monograms on Mike Parr, more Barbara Kruger fridge magnets saying "Grant Denyer is a big bowl of wrong!", more mock-Hockney fashion spectacles you can stamp on, more souvenir cans of real Warhol soup you can explode in a campfire, and more jumbo-sized John Brack pencils you can reverse over in your Hummer.
As evidence of all this, ACCA will next week put on a big book sale in the cold cavernous vortex that it their foyer. Nice, glossy, well-designed art books and catalogues about some of ACCA's exhibition alumni (Callum Morton, Gillian Wearing, Mike Nelson, Barbara Kruger, Domenico de Clario, Unquiet World, et al) are going for a song. Some for three bucks.
When you get the books home you won't be expected to actually look at them again; the idea is that having them lying around will boost your art-cred astronomically, and your friends will forever be fearful of debating the merits of Brack's pencil paintings with you.
