Walking down a laneway and into a strange, low-ceilinged stairwell is normal for us citymaholics. But to stumble upwards and arrive at a beautifully presented fashion boutique rather than some dilapidated drinking hole can still flip even our Melburnian minds.

At the end of Rankins Lane (around that corner from Brother Baba Budan, fiends), Comeback Kid is a surprise. The store has glossy hardwood floors, industrial paraphernalia scattered around, a changing room the size of my best friend's NYC apartment, and an absolutely stunning photographic mural by Ben Davis pasted up over an entire wall.

The brain child of Greta Larkins and Patrick Roberts, Comeback Kid has been in the making since 2007. They registered the name, and then sat back planning and plotting, making it perfect. In stock are latest menswear lines from Does Not Equal, Limedrop, Odeur, Neon Sleep, Orri Henrisson, Trimapee, and about five other labels coming soon.

Comeback Kid is not just cool for being beautiful or stocking beautiful clothes, it has that ‘I-just-found-something-secret!' feeling, which for us jaded hacks doesn't come often enough.
