London's Future Laboratory has been casting pearls, nuggets and carats before swine under the ultimate preposition The for four issues now; it's time for us all to catch up - the future awaits!
As a trend forecasting agency, it might seem strange that they would be giving away their insights so freely (indeed, downloadable as a PDF), but Future Lab seem more generous than those we would normally think of whom engage in trend forecasting, (jealously guarding their insights so Nike can come along and buy them for One Million Dollars). Future Lab are more interested in the social implications of the movements of emerging cultures and the reaction of markets to these.
In this issue, as in previous ones, some of the most enjoyable moments of the magazine come from ‘The City Boxes', a series of double page spreads that document the contents of a box of stuff put together by a person or group in a particular city, to represent that city, and posted to London. This issue features Stockholm, New Delhi and... Melbourne.
Outside of this section lies a dizzying array of short and medium-sized articles that sometimes tempt the question "...really?" but most often prompt a satisfying and fruitful train of thought.
