How would you like to amble into a bookstore, order a book not in stock and watch while a computer-operated machine prints and binds the book in about seven minutes? For about $20? While you watch the machine and chat to the assistants? Convenient!

Well there is one of these machines in Melbourne - at Angus and Robertson's Bourke Street store opposite the Post Office. I have seen The Storymaker - as A&R calls it - operating twice now, the first time without glitches but the second time with gremlins at work tearing the paper and requiring a technician.

However, I did eventually obtain the book I wanted, originally printed in 1904. All about Buffalo Bill, one of the most colourful figures in the American wild west. Takes you back in time, don't it cowboy.
