Harmony Korine: he did the screenplay for Kids, he used to do Chole Sevigny (until he started doing too many drugs), he's done Letterman, and even Marc Jacobs wants his picture. But mostly because he directed these Cannes applauded films: Gummo, Julien Donkey-Boy and Mister Lonely.
This is the book of the film, well rather the screenplay made into a book. In between Gummo and Mister Lonely, Korine found himself in a dark place. Until one day he started to dream of nuns, he began to imagine them dancing in the sky and riding bicycles in the clouds. He knew the nuns were testing their faith. It might sound a touch corny, but it's actually the opposite - it spiked the revival of Korine and the begining of the film.
Mister Lonely is the divinely odd story about a French Michael Jackson impersonator who meets a Marilyn Monroe impersonator who is married to a Charlie Chaplin impersonator and they have a child who does Shirley Temple. There's also a Madonna, a Pope and a James Dean in the mix, amongst others. The script takes you through the tender journey of chasing a dream. It's poetic, and the best thing about reading Mister Lonely is that the version in your mind is different to everybody else's. And yes, he does make nuns fly.
