The new Melbourne Design Guide launched last week. And it rules. After we fought our way to the table to have a look we said, "Jesus, no wonder you guys haven't been out on the town for a while." Edited by Viviane Stappmans and designed by Chase & Galley, this edition is basically two books. It even has two covers! One guy bought two copies - we don't know whether he was confused, or just couldn't decide which side would make his shelf look cooler.
One way around, it's all about places you can visit and things you can buy - with chapters on the built environment, design objects, fashion, art, eating and heading out of town. The other side is all about projects, people and inspiration. There are hand-drawn maps, too - which will make you feel better about scrawling things on your arm or a coffee cup or the the phone bill that just arrived. Melbourne might be a "design city", like everyone keeps going on about, but no-one's said it better than this.
