Mapplethorpe:A Biography is a mixture of the beautiful and the tragic, a story of honesty and undoing, and an insight into a life that is both real and hypnotic. A definite page turner (no relation to Tina Turner) this biography profiles a self-righteous swine and captor of beauty who was driven by the desire for fame and undone by a voracious lust.
Although it seems these elements could be twisted into the voiceover for a bad Neighbours commercial this book is no soapie, and is handled not with sensationalism, but instead with a certain sensitivity and class.
