"JT's stories are like stitches, like exit wounds, dispatches, depositions. He is the brilliant, gifted and profound fly on the wall. You'll need handkerchiefs and Novocain to get through this."
-Tom Waits
At 16, JT Le Roy wrote his first book about transvestite-child-whores in truck parking lots. Similarly, his latest book, Harold's End,featuring pre-pubescent homeless smack-addicts, might make you feel distressed, disheartened and at times nauseous.
The content is blatantly twisted but the writing is so fresh and tender that it doesn't succumb to cliché or come across too dirty and depressing. Added to which, the text is accompanied by hauntingly beautiful images by Australian artist Cherry Hood.
The soon-to-be cult author's writing has been described as 'savagely authentic and appallingly beautiful'. He writes the things that no one else wants, and these are things that all of us should read.
