Fact: nothing beats miniatures. Take something quite good and shrink it or compress it and BAM! you've got a winner. Don't believe us? Look upon any item that you love and imagine it 100 times smaller. Are you dying from how cute it is? Did you just make a noise that sounds like "SQUEEE!"? Of course you did.

The reason we bring this up is that we've just revisited Dan Rhodes' Anthropology and a Hundred Other Stories, an ingenious book composed of 101 tales, each containing exactly 101 words. These little nuggets are effortless to read and expose the truths of modern romance with a wonderfully wry, absurdist charm. Anecdotes, characters and occasionally whole lives are squished into just one paragraph and made so much more enjoyable because of it. These prose haikus are the perfect antidote to a world obsessed with all things big and overstated.
