‘I don't know what it is,
but I distrust myself
when I start to like a girl
a lot.'
FACT: Richard Brautigan's story, ‘The Abortion', inspired the Library of Unwritten Books. FACT: Brautigan recorded a spoken word album for the Beatles. And you thought he was small-time. Tsk. FACT: I ‘discovered' Brautigan because my well-read, fashion plate of a housemate had him on her bookshelf. God, I'm such a disgusting trend vulture. RB would not approve.
Yes, over the decades many locally and overseas-grown beings have turned to the work of Richard Brautigan for comfort and titillation. And now (what better time than...) upstanding local literary journal Torpedo has issued a plum tribute to the late Mr B. With a bonus envelope of full-colour illustrations, Torpedo #4 eloquently captures the spirit of a man who eloquently captured the spirit of the filthy San Franciscan hippie movement.
(Plus, it's totally endorsed by his daughter.)
