The world's most famous talking bird was an African Grey parrot named Alex, a bird who liked green beans, did not care for women and knew all the colours of the rainbow. While we can't vouch for the sexual orientation or food preferences of the illustrators in the Jacky Winter Group, like a talking parrot they can put on one hell of a show.
The Jacky Winter Group, named after a wee plucky native bird, is a new agency that brings together a diverse and talented group of Australian illustrators. To celebrate they're bringing their show to the many rustic rooms above the Carlton Hotel. From Lillian Piri's delicate, rosy-cheeked children, their disjointed arms made of mail, to Dylan Martorell's intricate and dignified creatures, to Kat MacLeod's collage ladies, who inspire confusing feelings of outfit envy even though they are pictures and not real people, missing the Jacky Winter Group launch would be a waste of a perfectly good Thursday evening.
There'll even be actual talking birds present, who will probably be just fine with women. Probably. We think. Best watch your fingers just in case.
