The great thing about Melbourne is it's super flat. No hills. No mountains. No volcanos or steep inclines. If you have a bike and a functioning pair of legs it's crazy easy to get around the place - just point yourself in whichever direction you need to go and you're away.

Mind you, bikes aren't indestructible. Especially if you bought yourself one of those Northcote indie specials from a second hand shop - or stole it from a homeless person. Those bikes can be fraught with problems and life threatening danger. That's where the RACV's new Roadside Assistance Service for bikes comes in.

For only $24 per year they'll give you TOTAL COVERAGE. And by total coverage, we mean they'll come out and fix your puncture. Or reattach the chain. Maybe even fish you out of the Yarra and administer emergency first aid. Best of all, if they can't fix the problem they'll call you a cab and give you $50 to go away.

Yeah, we know what you're thinking, but there are a few disclaimers, i.e. the policy doesn't cover you ‘accidentally' throwing your bike under a train.
