The talented duo behind Evergreen Terrace, Liv Barrett and James Deutsher, have a lateral approach to everything they touch. Treading the line between fashion and art, everything they produce from books to clothing is skewed in a practical, funny way that makes ‘normal’ seem a bit silly.
Their latest offering, Evergreen Terrace Vol.1, is a heavy collection of photocopies of things that people like. Things that people like can often be surprising. For instance, I really like the show Midsomer Murders. Maybe that isn’t surprising, because it is the TV equivalent of a nice cup of tea and a biscuit. But you get the picture – random magazine clippings, frame-grabs, bums on photocopiers – it’s all in here, from a long list of contributors spanning the globe.
The extra twist in that the publication is entirely editable by the reader. A photocopier is on site, allowing people to add their own contributions or even start a new version from scratch. It's accompanied by a sprawling wall painting by Christopher L.G. Hill. Interested readers should pay the VCA gallery a visit to pick up/create their own copy. Just not on Friday night, Midsomers is on.
