Description:
When two of New York's most important artists get together on a musical collaboration, the world (and Melbourne) takes note. Even if it is the unlikely coupling of 'most-pretentious runner up' award-winner Philip Glass (he lost to Lamont Young) and Canadian folk legend, Leonard Cohen. Through the release of his new publication, Book of Longing, Cohen has found a fan in American minimalist, Glass, who subsequently decided that making compositions based around the writing was a necessary effort. As Leonard says himself, 'This is just like Bach asking if he could use your lyrics.' It must be a more fulfilling gig than doing the Christmas episode of South Park, or Sesame Street videos that freaked out everyone but the children of Woodstock. Either way, the combination of these two legends makes for a riveting work that includes sketches, poetry, and music. - PC & PM
