Description:
Elizabeth Carey Smith is a type nerd. Normal nerds do not understand what it  is to be a type nerd. For one, type nerds are well-dressed. For two, they must keep up to date on slab serifs around the clock. The fickle winds of letter fashion can turn on a dime. Amid all this, Elizabeth has been working on her first solo exhibition. It's an extension of her Imaginary Alphabets project, where she finds examples of custom lettering (like on signs and little books in the Dandenong Op Shop) and builds whole A-to-Zs. In this show, she salutes the hand-lettering of Brunswick, a suburb that knows how to write $2.99 on a kilo of bananas faster than you can sign your name. - PM
