Nerds are awesome. They know heaps about stuff we will never understand. The best ones are the mavens, the articulate fonts of knowledge that can find a way to make the impenetrable understandable and happily take your calls during pub quizzes. The Australian Science Communicators ARE these people and they're having a drinks night - and we're allowed to go. It's the prefect opportunity to vicariously increase your knowledge, or at least find a suitable ‘phone a friend' in case you get on Millionaire. - LT
