Description:
There's no two ways about it; IKEA is a complete nightmare. Screaming kids, doddering geriatrics, grey-faced husbands, deranged nest-maker wives blinking too much and darting about like hummingbirds... it's enough to make you rely on cinder blocks and hard-rubbish forever, or just run a nice hot bath for you and the toaster. Adam Cruickshank, however, has made lemonade out of those grubby lemons with an exhibition of works made from IKEA stuff! He's crafted a necklace from those little wooden pencils, and a headdress from those paper measuring tapes. He built a throne out of the wooden stools! You know what he's doing? He's taking mass produced objects and reworking them into totems... charms, if you will.... The exhibition launches Thursday at Craft Victoria at 6pm and apparently there'll be "delicious free wines, some of them with bubbles." - JC
