Language is like the sun. Every day, without fail, it is there, unquestioned. It even burns you sometimes. Victory Over the Sun, curated by Melissa Loughnan and Helen Hughes of Utopian Slumps, is an exploration of the limitations of language and its relationship to progression, evolution and revolution.

Victory Over the Sun cites Zaum, an early 20th Century dialect that pivoted around sound symbolism and associative sensory experience. A battle between the rational and the intuitive, this constructed language formed the core of a Utopian vision and said, "No, thank you." (in Zaum, of course) to singularity and traditionalism. The re-imagining of language also applies to dystopias; take, for instance, the dialogues and monologues of Bladerunner, Wong Kar Wai's 2046, and of course, Frankston.

Collecting a diverse range of artists working across different mediums, including Kate Smith, Alex Vivian, Nick Selenitsch, Christopher L.G. Hill, Richard Giblett, and Ben Quilty, Victory Over the Sun looks into the future and encourages the thought that if we stopped talking so goddamn much, we might be able to feel a little more.
