Lane Cormick is really into the Eastern European body artists from the 1960s and 70s. There was a group of 'Viennese Actionists' who were most known for their rather violent and fucked up 'trangressions' of the body. Their stunts were pretty bloody and shocking. Lots of bodily fluids and queasiness and ouch my head. A lot of them served time in jail for violations of decency laws.
Anyway, for Unearthing The Hawke, Lane is mixing this up with Australian politics and what passes for Aussie culture (maaaate). He's focusing on Bob Hawke and is staging a performance/event for the evening. Right now, at this moment, he's building a platform around the circumference of the gallery from which buckets of urine and crap and god knows what will be dumped on him.
There'll be Bob Hawke masks and transcripts of speeches. And, as we said before, there will be sweet, numbing beer.
