Goin' up the country - still don't give a fuck. *Tastes Self* is psychocowpunkhorseshitmentaldrama dredged from the childhoods of the sprite-sized Kate Smith and the benign sorcerer Alex Vivian. Introduced at Kate's first show at Utopian Slumps, Whoops Kibbutz, the pair got chatting - just like the yokels they aren't - about growing up in lower NSW's bucolic Riverina and all that pastoral goodness.
I don't like to pay for someone else's therapy - but if it looks like an ass-whuppin' I'll make an exception. Here it's nostalgia on an acid-death-trip back to the halcyon days of clique-gangs in rural high school, a knockdown brawl between landlocked hunks and hunnies in conspick-consume surfwear and the whip-cropped boot-clickin' RM Williams-Country Roadeo squattocratic-fazciszm crowd.
Y'all ringside can expect a fully integrated program of cross-fertilisation and inter-semination - if he made it she made it too. Or, if the goose is good come take a gander. It's a *fashion* installation made entirely on-site - though lots of practice was had on shopping tours and in the studio. I mean, farming is a profession after all, and these guys are nothing if not professional. Smith & Vivian - it even sounds like landed gentry going public.

ThreeThousand is a subcultural guide to Melbourne, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Melbourne writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence ThreeThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
