For some reason when I first heard the name of The Jacky Winter Group's new gallery, Lamington Drive, I thought of that regal driveway in Eyes Wide Shut that leads Tom Cruise to that mansion where they have all those orgies. But of course ‘drive', when it's put with the word lamington, means fundraiser. So I was then reminded of my Nan and her church groups in country Tasmania.

(To cleanse these alternating images of fleshy orgies and my Nan's cake stand, I bunkered down with a milk-Milo and watched a few of episodes of The One, that psychic show on Seven hosted by Andrew Daddo.)

Lamington Drive, I am here to clarify, is in fact the new home for Australia's best illustrators (read: Jacky Winter illustrators, of which I am a shameless member) that opens this Thursday in Fitzroy. Jeremy Wortsman, mastermind behind it all, has made the gallery from pine and cardboard (claustrophobes will think they're in an Ikea box, minus something called a Norrsten).

Expect lamingtons, drinks and the inaugural exhibition Surrender, by Webuyyourkids (Biddy Maroney and Sonny Day). Everything for sale. Opened by Marcus Westbury, no less.
