I remember my first peep show. I mean, how could I forget the day that my naivety and romance unknowingly kissed each other with poisoned lips and were left more lifeless than the stripper's prop dildo? I was 16 and spending some time with my 6 foot 4" friend Richard - who had been that tall since he was eleven - and I slinked into the Club X looking like a strange extension of his 501s with my face as blank as his exposed knee-cap. ‘Don't touch the walls' were his parting words and we entered into our booths with a handful of $2 coins.
Anyway, the rest is private, but Strangeness, running as part of the LMFF cultural program is definitely public. A re-interpretation of the ‘peep-show' with nature as its curtain, the exhibition is a collaboration between Sydney-based photographers Lyn & Tony and their friend and finalist in the LMFF Designer Award, Konstantina Mittas. Unlike the Club X, what they present is a world where things are forbidden for their beauty rather than their deviance and, through photography and a sculptural installation, examine the relationship between the body and the environment and explore the boundaries (or lack of) that we establish through the clothes that we wear.
