PM's friend: Oh herro. So what are you wearing to the dress-up party?
PM: Um. I was thinking of wearing my Lara Croft outfit.
PM's friend: PS that is so lame, it's just black bike shorts and some hankies in your bra. And a plastic gun. And a 4WD Jeep with no doors that attaches to a helicopter. OK it is not lame.
PM: Haha!
Dressing up is so fun, even if you always go as Lara Croft because you have a deep-seated fear of colours. This annual exhibition at BUS is a fashion and costume show, exploring the basic connection between dressing up and creativity and also that age-old link between fashion and art. The 13 artists include Rebecca Joseph, Nathan Gray, Karla Way, Oliver Hextall, Alexander Ouchtomsky, Dylan Martorell (tribal costumes playing electric pianos), Helen Johnson, Cait Foran, Grant Gronewold, Danielle Marlow (check out her knitted mask of Moondog, the great, blind US composer), Sophie Brous with Jason Heller and Lucreccia Quintanilla (who get soulful with a western suburbs barber in their audio visual piece).
They are advertising something called a ‘closing night costume party extravaganza'. If you want more details than that magnificent title alone, you are not invited (but you're going to miss some great performances).
