Through the difficult transition from the streets to the gallery wall, it is rare for an artist to survive with their credibility intact. New York based phenomenon Neck Face has not only managed to keep it real, he’s created an empire in the process. Melding his raw, demonic imagery with sharp commercial smarts, the rise of Neck Face is comparable to that of Jean-Michele Basquiat and Keith Haring.

Reaching prominence through his prolific tagging and stickers proclaiming ‘Neck Face ate my baby!’, as well as hilariously reworked billboards, his work now adorns skateboards, clothing, shoes, album covers and of course, influential galleries. The consistent line through it all is a cheeky disregard for authority and an appreciation of the grotesque, resonating with a generation bred on punk, metal, skateboards, comic books and horror movies.

Neck Face is in Australia for his debut Melbourne exhibition at Don't Come gallery. None of the work on display has been exhibited before, including framed works of ink and watercolour and oxy-torched steel masks. This will be his only Australian show during this trip to our shores and a rare chance to snap up an original piece from one of the world’s most exciting artists.
