Escaping the city for a weekend in the bush can be hard, but no wonder. Cities were built to keep nature out, dummy. And, for better of worse, they do pretty good job of it. This Friday, however, a little bit of nature comes to town in the form of Grow Wild, a group show curated by Sleep Club (Adam Cruickshank and Dell Stewart).
Riffing on the pleasures of the wild and primal, Grow Wild contemplates nature in all its elemental glory. Like creativity, wilderness is irrepressible. Constantly bursting through the cracks, it provides us with those transformative moments of wonder, sadness, need and desire - moments when we feel truly alive.
The nine contemporary artists on show include New Yorker Michelle Arcila and internationally lauded Australians David Keating and Nathan Gray. Pieces range through sculpture, photography, animation, and more, transforming the Slumps into a mythical campsite.
Let your imagination roast marshmallows on the fire of creativity.
