d.v.d at Aphids Reel Music Festival
Comprised of two human drummers and a visual artist, d.v.d piece together live animations triggered by the musicians' drumming. They push music/gaming boundaries by reworking the ‘80s arcade classic, ‘Pong' (You all know, Pong, yeh?) with their own unique tribute. These guys are just one of the groups performing at the Aphids Reel Music Festival - four nights of live performances combining music with the moving image.
MASH SF – Australian Premiere
Past. Present. Future.
As a myriad reflection of track heritage and contemporary style MASH SF rider James Newman also believes that riding fixed can “make you look into the future. Since you can’t stop as fast, you have to plan ahead”.
Cavalier or clairvoyant, MASH SF – a film by Gabe Morford and Mike Martin, watch the trailer here – creates the sense that this elite group of San Franciscan riders navigate using the palms and not the backs of their hands.
Filippo Raphael FRESH! Award
Ignoring by the slightly fruity ! in the title, we are dragging our pathetic, cynical feet to Craft Victoria this week for a breath of fresh, enthusiastic air. This annual exhibition of work by Victoria's most innovative graduating students of craft and design is a big deal.
This is the stuff you'll be wanting to buy in order to impress people next Christmas, so treat FRESH.
Animal Dollars
Let me ask you:
If a rabbit was to shop for something what would it buy? Carrots. If a monkey was to shop for something what would it buy? Bananas. If a fox was to shop for something what would it buy? Rabbits.
My point is that animals have a desire to purchase items of need and want as much as humans.
espresso < expressway
All architects don’t just wear square-framed glasses and black turtle-necks, and neither does their design just focus upon buildings. Exhibition espresso < expressway, by renowned architects Denton Corker Marshall, spans 20 years of their history from the creation of a silver coffee table for the National Gallery of Victoria to a coffee spoon for Italian design factory Alessi.
New exhibitions at the CCP
Last Thursday night nearly 500 people packed into the CCP to celebrate the first shows of 2006, an impressive turn-out for some equally impressive exhibitions.
In Gallery 1 Juha Tolonen’s Entropia combines the ubiquity of entropy with the implausibility of utopia. Grand sounding but visually clear, pictures of turnstiles leading to nowhere or a television reflecting its own environment skilfully contrast ideas of progress and degeneration.

We’ve reached a time where galleries and exhibition spaces are no longer confined to a white room with a lady in black eyeing your unwashed jeans with distaste. They now exist in cyber platforms, where artists of a global calibre and various disciplines join in constantly revolving exhibitions.
