All those agoraphobics out there who wish to bypass the hysteria created by artist Audrey Kawasaki should probably avoid Outre Gallery this week.
It isn't often that an individual, let alone a visual artist, can cause such a stir without even setting foot in the country. But such is the hype surrounding this Los Angeles-based visual artist, whose work is coveted by teenage girls and pervy men the world over, that editions consistently sell out online within seconds.
Anyway, this will be the largest showcase of Kawasaki's work seen in Australia, and some of the new stuff comes in editions of 200, with preference given to local buyers! Take that: online art market.
With a larger exhibition of Kawasaki's hot, semi-nude chicks (sorry, distinctive, erotically charged fusions of Art Nouveau and Manga) planned for 2010, we can look forward to seeing more of her work even if the nearest thing we can afford is a happy ending massage.
