The Slumps has sadly closed it's doors, but that doesn't mean they can't be pried back open for a Boxing Day see-you-later hootenanny! This Saturday Free Choice Duo, Alex Akers/Belltowers Synth Jam live, and DJs Gordon Zola and Nervous Jack will play records previously recorded by musicians, while you stagger about Easey Street all drunk and bummed out because you're "totally gonna miss this gallery, dude".
Event: Party
Stimulus: cosmic dust
Utopian Slumps has been living on Easey Street for three years, but enough is enough. Mel Loughnan's closing up the gallery this week because truth be told it was never really easy (and that's why they spell it with an extra 'e'). A not-for-profit curator-run space, Utopian clocked up many firsts in its short time on earth.

When we say bookmark you're probably thinking the thing you get with a swift click of the mouse when you're online and want to remember how to get back to that pair of rare mounted antlers on ebay, not the decorated slices of cardboard or dog-eared corners of envelopes you put between pages of the book you're reading.

What:
Helen Johnson, On the Make
Where:
Utopian Slumps, 25 Easey St, Collingwood
When:
Opening Fri Nov 13, 6-9pm
Exhibition runs until Nov 28
How much:

Description:
Helen Johnson's paintings move beyond two dimensions and into other realms. Her work deals with big words like gender, culture, national character and persian rugs, but with dollops of humour and imagination. You could say that if the weather carries on like it has, this opening at the Slumps looks set to be a real political hot potato.

Description:
Lines demarcate boundaries and create meaning. They tell us where to stand and where to stop. They cast shadows, keep things on the left, and make boxes. The simple line is never so simple in the otherness it decides. From drawing the line to toeing the line, The Edge of the Line challenges the line and its indeterminable edge, pushing notions of perspective and perception using kinetic sculpture, drawing, laser-cut forms and etched back lit mirrors.

Brendan Huntley? He gets around. Aside from fronting Eddy Current Suppression Ring, the guy has four solo exhibitions to his name. The latest (#5) is based on a series of vessels he created with paper, oil and ceramics. They've all been infused with different personality! Not sure if they have names to go with those personalities.
