Elizabeth Carey Smith is a type nerd. Normal nerds do not understand what it is to be a type nerd. For one, type nerds are well-dressed. For two, they must keep up to date on slab serifs around the clock. The fickle winds of letter fashion can turn on a dime. Amid all this, Elizabeth has been working on her first solo exhibition.

Tobias Frere-Jones and his partner Jonathan Hoefler form New York type design studio Hoefler & Frere-Jones, possibly the most well-respected and prolific dedicated type-design studio operating today. Their way of describing the process of type design is enjoyable, accessible and funny - a quality unusual in type designers.

Soviet Union scientists were hooked on the idea that living organisms could survive in space.
