Voice of the Dresden Dolls, Amanda Palmer is bringing her punk cabaret to the Forum this Friday, with a fucking string quartet! Of course, you love her. Thanks to Big Day Out, we have a dbl pass to give away! To enter, email win@threethousand.com.au with the subject 'Feel free to hate cos I ain't tryin-a be your mate'
Description:
A few moons have passed since we were first introduced to Dizzee Rascal's frenetic, accessible brand of garage, in the shape of 2003's Mercury Prize winning Boy In Da Corner. That thing was everywhere, inciting many an otherwise sane white Australian to wave their hands about madly and rap in an exaggerated London accent.

Where:
Beck's Rumpus Room at the Forum, 154 Flinders St, Melbourne
When:
NEXT Fri Oct 23, doors 9pm
How much:
$15 from here
Description:
"Where the hip hop meets poetry and gets turned in floetry." This is an obvious example why the untrained should not try and rap - and please expect better rhymes from this line-up than that one. Beans (of the recently reformed Anti Pop Consortium) calls himself the Ornette Coleman of rap and the likes of Radiohead, Prefuse 73 and Missy Elliot all agree - so, uh, who are we to argue? This particular line up finds the link between experimental beats and poetry, the Kronos Quartet and the West Bank, as well as partying all night long and being from Sydney - well, I guess some links are easier than others to make.

Description:
Jazz has a bad rep. Sure, it was way cool back in the day when everyone was doing heroin and dancing and having a great time, but ‘70s and ‘80s jazz fusion had to come along and ruin it for everyone. Of course those of us who stuck with it are reaping the benefits this week.

There is too much to say about this show for this tiny little entry, so let's make it quick. Laughing Clowns, the legendary post-punk jazzers led by Ed Kuepper from The Saints, are reuniting for a fucking legendary show. Nels Cline from Wilco is opening and he's a goddamned genius these days and has worked on avant-garde, jazz, noise, country, and rock projects with the likes of Thurston Moore, John Zorn, and Charlie Haden.
