With the closure of the Afterdark in Northcote, the Sabbatical monthly performance series has a new home and new night of the week. Now all you sound dwellers can procure your fix of ‘art' on the third Thursday of each month at the inner city locale of The Old Bar. Shuddering the walls of the first night are two of the labels original noise makers rarely seen live: the grinding, mind blowing intensity of Bone Sheriff, and the melancholic, bittersweet drones and pulses of Aux Assembly.

The latest release in the Sabbatical limited-edition series sees the collaboration of two musical giants: Absoluten Calfeutrail, aka Mark Groves (Whitehorse, Collapsed Toilet Vietnam and True Radical Miracle) and Blarke Bayer, the solo vehicle of My Disco and Agents of Abhorrence string slinger Ben Andrews.

Sabbatical Records' in-house engineer and co-conspirator, Marcus Cook nee hard-wired ohm freak, Default Jamerson - gets his due release on the local label with Stable Government and Adequate Sanitation. Having studio-produced Sabbatical's scene-breaking Maximum Awesome and Mof Rah Far Far issues - as well as playing many a label-organised bill, Cook is in part responsible for the growing, sub-surge of interest in Melbourne for post-noise, live analogue performance of late.
Sad Sun EP
Naked On The Vague are thrillingly deep in a woods all their own on Sad Sun - a new EP on rising Melbourne label, Sabbatical Records. No one in the country makes claim to as spectrally macabre or chilly territory as this eerie Sydney duo right now, whose sound has moved from bracing synth punk (see DualPlover debut 7") to a full-blown Gothic expression of cosmic dread on this, only their second release.
