Here's the perfect excuse to dodge the perennial lunch date proposition from mail room Dave! Leave him drooping at the watercooler while you sprint off to see Denim Owl perform for free at 1000 £ Bend's purpose-built exhibition space, at the respectable lunching time of 1pm. Friday's gig marks the first of many in the monthly Mess + Noise lunchbox series.

Considering Melbourne's infatuation with architecture, I have always found our allegiance to the humble souvlaki a bit questionable. Of all the cylindrical-meat-wrapped-in-bread foodstuffs, it has the worst structural integrity. Considering that 99% of the time the meat just ends up falling out into a depressing slurry of garlic sauce, grease, and your precious, precious tears.

When not lending their respective gossamer vocals and mad drum skills to the quickening strains of Rise and Demise, Ange and Phil are to be found in the heart of Thornbury, a mere hop and skip from stop 37 on the 112 tram, dishing up toothsome eats that laugh in the face of standard cafe fare.
There's the almond granola with vanilla yoghurt, spiced apple and berry compote, a cloak and dagger family recipe of Ange's.
