Description:
Cloud Control care about Neil Young, The Lucksmiths and Fleetwood Mac. They are your kind of people. They won't be wearing those stupid glasses with little video screens and leaping about like they're playing Rove Live and afterwards they'll be drinking glow-in the dark liquid from a bag.

These San Diegans (that just doesn't sound right) have something to their sound that makes it instantly recognisable. Maybe the harmonica, maybe the effects on the vocals and guitar, maybe the country rock folk feel to it... or maybe it's just the equation that bands have been using forever to make themselves familiar; and the Delta Spirit stumbled onto the secret recipe.

Description:
Following the release of her second album Fireproof earlier this year, singer-songwriter and recording engineer Dawn Landes has left New York to travel around and grace others with her gentle ballads in the flesh. ‘Bodyguard' has been receiving the most radio play of late and has proven itself far easier on the ears than the eardrum-piercing theme song from that film with Whitney Houston.

Description:
Any comparison to Edith Piaf is tough to carry around these days being that even Piaf looks beige next to Marion Cotillard. But Melbourne's Felicity Cripps (Houlette) has also been compared to Tom Waits, the nation of Iceland and country music, leavening the Frenchness nicely. Come and see Houlette and her prose-and-roses band launch their new 7" single ‘The Escape' (out through EXO) tonight.

A couple of years back, ‘folktronica' was the genre of the moment for many music journos, and no review of UK act Tunng and their debut album Mother's Daughters & Other Songs was complete without it. Now on to their third album, the core duo of Sam Genders and Mike Lindsay have evolved into a fully functioning six piece band.
For many, who have been put off horns and all things Gypsy by the likes of The Cat Empire, Beirut's debut album Gulag Orkestar is less about imitating as it is about imagining. Created by a 19-year Brooklynite Zach Condon, this album is about the ‘suspension of disbelief' rather than any claim of authenticity.
No one makes mix-tapes anymore, but if they did, anything by Fionn Regan would be a good addition. In fact, we can pretty much guarantee that a track like ‘Put A Penny In The Slot' would have your beloved-to-be drawing love hearts around your initials during biology.
Fionn's only 25, but his sincere, storytelling style has been compared to Young, Woody Guthrie and John Lennon, and basically sounds like Bright Eyes if he didn't whinge so much and told more stories.
