When:
Sun May 31, noon-5pm

Free entry!
Description:
Now this zine fair has the worst name in the history of zine fairs. It's called Page Parlour. Ewwww! Sounds like an Edwardian porn library. But don't hold that against it because the market's bigger than ever this year with more than 40 stalls. One of the good things about zines is that they're cheap, and often the editors will swap you one for a possession of little value such as an iRiver.
Event: Fair
Stimulus: The real live world
What:
Wordstock
Where:
BMW Edge, Fed Square
When:
NEXT WEEK! Thur May 28, doors 7.30pm
How much:
$20/$15 from here
Description:
The Emerging Writers' Festival is really great if you're an emerging writer. Sadly, it's pretty boring for the majority of the public who don't care about the challenges of being a freelance comedy writer without dental insurance. Thankfully this year, there are great events like Wordstock that just might rope all the non-emerging people into the festival.
Event: Festival
Stimulus: Ideas
A picture is worth a thousand words. The recommended industry rate for freelance writers is $799 for 1000 words or less and 80c per word thereafter. Rolling with this logic, RMIT Gallery and the Emerging Writers’ Festival are offering up in excess of $9,600 from twelve Melbourne-based artists, writers, publishers and designers as part of Rich Text.
