Here at ThreeThousand, we've believed it for a while: disco is the new nu rave. But, as Malcolm Gladwell has said (between trips to the money-counting machine), every trend needs a tipping point. And mark our words, for disco in Melbourne the tipping point will be Wild Combination: A Portrait Of Arthur Russell.
The adage everything old becomes new again holds on this mind-blowing compilation of 'rare European library grooves' courtesy of Munich's Permanent Vacation label. Compiled by the enigmatically named Alexis Le-Tran and Jess, Space Oddities takes in 19 super-obscure cuts from subscriber-only library music albums used to score European film and TV productions from 1975-1984.

Baby Boomers' Disco chintz returns emasculated and in altogether more sinister form with the new Italians Do It Better compilation, After Dark. Recent 12" and blog-only tracks by label artists Chromatics, Glass Candy, Farrar, Professor Genius and Mirage plunder Moroder and Studio 54 signifiers with cool and deadly intent, electro-shocking their falling synth patterns, Cabasa'n'bass rhythms, vocoder and electrolised strings to new, mercurial heights.
In a wacky twist of concept heaven, Spank Rock have taken Diplo's Fabric 32 as the end point of their anticipated mix on the illusive ‘Fabric Live' franchise.
According to Ronnie Darko (Spank Rock's cut creator), it's a rare treat for a DJ to step up to the wheels and steer the set to compliment the DJ beforehand, especially in a world where disc fame means out spinning each other.
