There is an incredible power in serving up deliciousness to your friends and watching their faces contort into a look of angry bliss. (You know it - "This is blowing my mind in a way that only a frown can express.") The lowly flipside of this is being power hungry with no cooking talent - fated to a life as the dinner party guest forever wearing the frown of bliss-content.
A million miles away from the overdone gloss of Jamie, Nigella and co., Cookbook is that rare breed: the kind of recipe book you won't feel compelled to hide behind the rice cooker when guests come over.
Divided into three courses with accompanying colour code, typeface and linocut artwork by Ned Culic, Jon Campbell and Tin & Ed, Cookbook showcases twenty-four favourite home-style recipes from local food luminaries such as Anthony Lui of Flower Drum, Neil Perry of Rockpool and Andrew McConnell of Cumulus Inc.

According to Urban Dictionary, a champagne jam is a party where you drink shitloads. Here's how to make a party in your mouth - and trust me, you'll eat shitloads. Homemade jam is the biz. Forgot your ma's birthday for the second time? Homemade jam! Accidentally broke your neighbour's foot with your skateboard? Homemade jam, hello.
I'll be straight with you - I've never actually been to this place. My idea of gourmet shopping is a strong latte, or at best a skerrick of parmesan from the Vic Market. This is not because of any sort of reverse snobbishness, but purely because it costs money and that's what I use for train tickets.
