I've never been to Brisbane, but I wanna go. Everyone I've ever dealt with there has been super friendly, and judging from their perky, upbeat bands (The Grates, Operator Please), it must be all sunshine and fun times up north.
Bouncing into town with a van full of instruments is another blast of sunny Brissie disposition - The John Steel Singers.

They have made their own merch, and they will have this thing at the party where "You have your photo taken against this background, see, but first you crawl through the tunnel - actually, it might not sound that great over the phone.

Remember 1990s summers spent indoors listening to Future Sound of London, United Future Organisation, Tricky and the Wu-Tang Clan? The nights were long and warm then, and the patience of time seemed to askfar more from music. It was a different place altogether - the case for Ninja Tune cinematics had just been presented, and white indies everywhere started turning onto the egalitarian tech of Old Schoolhip-hop and British drum'n'bass.
It has been said, and perhaps rightly so, that there's not much to do in Brisbane of an evening. Sometimes there's not much to do of a morning either, or even of a late afternoon. This is why we should look twice at the creative output of young Brisbanians for, like so many Huckleberry Finns, they rely on their plucky imaginations in the daily quest for amusement.
