Everyone comes up with weird ways to save money. Ok, not everyone. Poor people. Like yours truly. Anyway, my favourite method is thus: when I see an item of clothing I like, if there is any fathomable way I could possibly attempt to try to make something similar myself, I'll confidently state ‘I could make that'.
Beci Orpin is a national treasure. Her folk-art inspired artwork adorns clothing, stationery and accessories aplenty through her Beci Orpin and Tiny Mammoth labels, as well as gallery walls. She is the proud mum of Tyke and Ari, loves good food, is a mean op-shopper - and now she's ThreeThousand's first ever Celebrity-Non-Chef.

Description:
Although this exhibition's title suggests otherwise, the work of these three Melbourne-based but internationally known artists covers a lot of bases - from porcelain skulls to kaleidoscopic patterns and dark-tingedfolk art. Beci Orpin (of Beci Orpin and Tiny Mammoth), Irene Grishin-Selzer (of Iggy & Lou Lou) and Madeleine Stamer (of Little Circus Design) share a certain creative nous, as well as the ability to draw a crowd of adoring fans from all sides of the river to the beachy glamour of St Kilda, breathing in the sea air and exclaiming, ‘Ooh, it's actually really nice over here.
Event: Exhibition
Stimulus: Alice in Wonderland
This week, Someday Gallery presents We're only here because I dreamt us up – an international group show curated by Princess Tina founder/designer Beci Orpin. Beci has fetched Canadians Sonja Ahlers and Geneviève Castrée- two talented young artists who have been inspiring her from afar - and has brought them together in Australia to create an exhibition that is girlish but mischievous, innocent but dark, dreamy but grim.
