So we are standing in an opaque glass cube, cantilevering out three metres, but 300m above Southbank when the glass goes clear and there is a second of pure excitement as we look through our blue shoe covers to the streets below (this is done by turning the smart glass 'on' to align crystals in between layers of clear glass, letting light through).
Architext bookshop is apparently the only bookshop in Australia (and rumour has it, one of the few in the world) entirely dedicated to architecture, landscape architecture and interior design.
Established 24 years ago by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, the bookshop has long been a reliable friend for Melbourne’s designers and architects seeking inspiration.
Worldly, business savvy but with a finger on design and fashion, this site and monthly magazine aims not just to inform, but entertain. By filtering through the information masses it delivers handpicked stories from a group of opinion leaders on the ABC (D and E) of what's happening around the globe.
It’s a common affliction - give a microphone to most designers (architects we’re looking at you) and you’re hit with a viral spiel on the “process driven, sculptural, embryonic, contextual, terrain vague”…Neh?
Thankfully, next Tuesday Pecha Kucha presents us with a cure to forum boredom.
There’s no shortage of ethos options being slammed in all directions atany given moment. Let alone the hounds of ‘culcha’ who are only toohappy to advise that you obey your thirst, or think different, or just do it. You can go the Kleindestine culture-jam option or you can filter out what inspires.
