Nobody tells Spike Lee to 'shut his face'. When Clint Eastwood tried it back in June, Brooklyn's righteously bespectacled auteur slapped Dirty Harry down with 'We're not on a plantation.'
Is Spike finally getting his America? After all, Barack Obama's first date with Michelle was going to see Do The Right Thing.
This book is so good. It's the true story of Reena Virk, a 14-year-old girl from British Columbia who was beaten and drowned under a bridge by her schoolmates in 1997. Brilliantly written and fastidiously researched, Under The Bridge will leave you wondering why you haven't killed yourself yet because the world is so horrible.
You like tits? Me too. Nice, big, juicy-ass tits. Don't come at me with no half-a-handful titties, that's a deal breaker, no sale. I wanna woman who can give me RSI in all the right places, if you know what I mean... Do you know what I mean? Yeah, me neither. I'll tell you this much though - the dudes that make the bestest breast-related zine in the world, Titty City, have also made a bunch of awesome t-shirts that you should buy because, guess what? They feature those big, fat, jaw-breaker tits we all know and love.

So what a weird delight it is, hearing a lone waifish flute meandering before the raucous hardcore assault of Toronto's F*cked Up begins. This is a band with roots in the fast/loud/Cookie-Monster-vocals blueprint of hardcore, roots that don't keep them from crossing over into epic-guitar-work, shoe-gaze-effects, even.
Sometimes, just being a cool guy is enough. For much of Dennis Wilson's career as the Beach Boys' charismatic drummer, this was certainly true. The only member who actually surfed, his shaggy beard and beach rat lifestyle informed much of the group's look and feel. Musically though, Dennis was overshadowed by his brothers and cousins, contributing just a few songs to the Beach Boys canon.
In 1974, French tightrope walker Philippe Petit strung up a cable between two corners of the World Trade Centre buildings in New York and went for an awe-inspiring stroll. Suddenly, the up-til-then ambivalent public response to the new constructions was converted into a fever of art-fuelled patriotism.
These San Diegans (that just doesn't sound right) have something to their sound that makes it instantly recognisable. Maybe the harmonica, maybe the effects on the vocals and guitar, maybe the country rock folk feel to it... or maybe it's just the equation that bands have been using forever to make themselves familiar; and the Delta Spirit stumbled onto the secret recipe.
