Like a shot of serotonin to the central nervous system, Hot Chip’s new album The Warning will remind of you of what being happy feels like. The undamaging disco and un-soppy soul continues on from Coming On Strong, but their cheeky lyricism has turned it into something that should gain some more serious recognition.

Never ones to fear a candlelit dinner, songs like ‘Colours’ and ‘LookAfter Me’ use intellect to fuse nerdy romance and awkwardness into atmosphere. ‘Just Like We Breakdown’ and ‘Boy From School’ will put three steps in your two-step, while ‘Over And Over’ (is that a kazoo?)is simply too ridiculous not to enjoy.

Definitely more of a blessing than a warning, Hot Chip has produced an album that will make you want to smile at strangers. Just don’t be surprised if they don’t smile back - they’re probably listening to The Living End.
