It could be easy to confuse The Magic Numbers with Major Moulty's Amazing Magical Plastic Band. Although, it would be really odd that before releasing their first record a band would release expensive figures of themselves in bright sixties outfits. Yet, in fact The Magic Numbers aren't three-inch vinyl collectables, but rather a pair of a pair of siblings (that makes four people, two boys, two girls and two surnames) forming a soulful pop band from London.

The Magic Numbers create songs full of light and space that skitter from Monkees-esque glee to a doo-wop caress and onto a down-tempo country shuffle. This shuffle is occasionally interrupted by a distortion pedal containing such melancholy happiness that you will wonder if you are, after all, bi-polar.

Stand out tracks such as the opening epic 'Mornings Eleven', the country grind of 'The Mule' and the harmonious 'Don't Give Up The Fight' punctuate a very solid record. With a debut like this, The Magic Numbers are a very talented band, and maybe one day will be worthy of plastic effigies .
