Skillfully maneuvering droning organs, looping guitars, and swooning violins, London-based muso Daniel Lea (aka By the Fireside) has written an album of damn fine tunes. Recorded in his homebuilt studio, The Great Hartford Fire is mellow indie rock with orchestration, emotionally charged yet understated. Breathy vocals over lilting keys, thumping basslines, and lackadaisical lines. Think Air's ‘Playground Love', Mercury Rev, or Beulah's Yoko LP.
Living in the gritty city is cool and shit, but sometimes it's nice to just take a drive in the countryside and look at cows. This is the album to take along. P.S: can you pull over soon? I have to pee.
