The Arcade Fire are the perfect compliment to this Melbourne winter. Their album Funeral contains all the pain of a rainy tramstop with the euphoria of an afternoon spent drinking in your favourite pub. It maintains emotion and integrity with haunting vocals and driving bass-lines. It is a crucible of well-crafted chaos with influences of Elbow, The Dears, Bjork and The Polyphonic Spree. Funeral passes the acid test by somehow drawing admirable comparisons while at the same time resisting them. This album when listened to closely will inspire you to feats of greatness, to sober love, and maybe to even finding the beauty in cold hands and a runny nose. Sniff.
